We spent 4 days diving into this story by learning more about the author’s craft, asking text dependent questions, completing fun graphic organizers, making a snowman craft, and discussing what snowmen do at night. Why does the snowman’s mouth look a little crooked and why does it seem to have lost a little height? Could it be because they come to life and do silly things at night? I will warn readers of one thing, however. The main characters definitely embody the age old adage that opposites attract. I loved seeing her characters rise above the loss of a loved one. The difference between who they were and the persona that people saw was shocking. The main characters in this novella were very well developed, allowing readers to get to know them on many levels. As a reader I felt involved in the story, thoroughly enjoying every minute of it. The story itself was both emotional and heartfelt. The well written, polished style that Callen pens this novella with allows the plot to shine through. Callen develops her story with a flair that really brings the subject matter to life.
