![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() There’s a level of detail in Supergod, not only in Gastonny’s art but Reddin’s often bleakly humorous account of the end of civilisation that begs at least a second read.ĭelivered as a retrospective lecture, Supergod might alienate some readers accustomed to more conventional storytelling. He also juggles the real-world and fantasy elements exceedingly well the scientists and astronauts look like normal people, while his super-deity designs flit plausibly into Ellis’s alternate history. His faces, especially the blue-skinned Krishna’s, are occasionally a little off, but his ruined cityscapes are a sight to behold. Relative newbie Garrie Gastonny didn’t have an easy task in depicting Ellis’s Armageddon, but boy does he deliver. From his retelling of the ill-fated return of England’s alternate-history spaceflight in the 1950s to India’s breakthrough in superhuman creation and Iran’s nuclear man, Reddin’s tale of the fall of man isn’t so much a story of nations forging superhuman weapons of mass destruction as men building gods. Simon Reddin sits amongst the torched remains of London, smoking a joint and dryly recounting the end of the world to an American correspondent. ![]()

The Clippers lost their first five games with Westbrook, prompting some to sound the alarm bells regarding what plenty believed to be an ill-advised addition. Even then, Paul George, Westbrook’s teammate back with the Oklahoma City Thunder, went to bat for his friend, lobbying for the Clippers front office to add the former MVP to give the team a stabilizing force at the point guard position.Īs one would remember, Westbrook’s Clippers tenure did not go off to the best of starts. ![]() In mid-February, plenty of pundits grew concerned over the Los Angeles Clippers’ interest in Russell Westbrook after such a disappointing tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers. ![]() ![]() While a great novel to kick up discussion on many issues around these topics, it verged on unpalatable. I was also put off with the amount of violence and abuse of human rights. ![]() I cringed at the self-congratulation of many of the characters, as I did to the continual ramming down our throats of religious belief, this was so prominent in the second novel I ended up with a stress headache. You do get a very real sense of the isolation and insignificant-ness of being a tiny speck of dust – a spaceship – floating in space. While there is certainly a lot packed into these novels – and not for the faint of heart – I did find the religious aspect somewhat preachy. It then further delves into beliefs, violence, vilification, and politics in a fight for survival. It has a heavy religious aspect to it as two ships travelling to colonise a new planet each have a focus: one on faith, and the other on science and technology. This trilogy is a bit like ‘ Lord of the Flies’ in space. But ‘ Flame’ ended the trilogy in brilliant fashion and is definitely my favourite of the whole collection. Though, my OCD finally kicked in and I needed to complete the trilogy, however ‘ Spark’ was underwhelming and my hopes began to sink. I was kinda liking the debut, ‘ Glow’ and then didn’t bother continuing with the series for close to two years because it failed to make an impression on me. Not my favourite trilogy, but a great ending. ![]() ![]() ![]() In 1932 she published Little House in the Big Woods, which was set in Wisconsin.
